bipoc intro to improv comedy class
This class is a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) only intro to improv comedy class! Learn from Aman Adumer (UCB Theater, Earwolf, World's Greatest Improv School) - Aman is an exceptionally talented writer-performer at the UCB Theater in Los Angeles. He has performed sketch and improv from New York to California and everywhere in between. Aman performs with the Harold team “LEROY”, the BIPOC super-team “Benetton” and his all black improv and sketch group “Arcade Currency".
Over 8 weeks you’ll learn the foundations of the Kickstand improv philosophy like how to listen, how to “yes and” your classmates’ ideas and how to identify and hone your comedic voice--all in a fun and nonjudgmental space. Whether you have years of acting experience or have never cracked a joke, whether you’re an extrovert or an introvert, all backgrounds are welcome. This class is a space for you to blow off steam, meet new people, stretch yourself creatively and learn a new skill!
The class is free but limited to 12 spots so please make sure you can attend most classes before applying. All BIPOC folx are welcome to apply, but we will be prioritizing Black and Indigenous students as well as students with the most availability.

Kickstand Comedy opened in 2014 as a DIY comedy gym in the basement of the Velo Cult Bike Shop but the Fire Marshall shut us down because it “was a fire hazard”… which it was. After several wonderful years lovingly tucked above the Siren Theater we’ve now moved into our first full-time home in Downtown Portland

COVID-19 Response
COVID-19 Response
Kickstand will be suspending all live programming indefinitely during the COVID-19 pandemic until we are confident that operations will not be putting anyone's safety at risk of contracting or coming in contact with carriers of the virus. As soon as we have a clearer picture we will pick a tentative date to resume live programming
Although the coming months present a profound challenge worldwide, and a unique battle for arts organizations like ours, we are hopeful that in the coming months we’ll be able to safely ramp Kickstand back up to full operations. At that time we welcome all of Portland back to Old Town to check out Kickstand’s brand new look, and invite everyone to join us at our grand re-opening for some much needed laughter.
Our sincere thanks to our community for helping us through this difficult time and for being proactive to keep folks safe. We will update everyone soon and look out for announcements on some live streamed shows as we try to keep our theaters mission alive making comedy while we learn more.
